Week 9 -Thing 23

WoW! So, here it is - my last post for the "23 Things." It's been fun. I have really learned quite a bit from these different steps. I really enjoyed blogging and rss feeds. Youtube was also one of my favorites, but I already knew how to use it, so it wasn't anything new. There were certainly some steps, like Rollyo for example, that I found to be a little hard to understand and I could not picture myself using it all of the time.
After completing each "thing," one thought has stuck in my mind - Do not forget the traditional library. I think that it will be beneficial for libraries to go mainstream and to keep up (technologically) with the time, but the old, classic, orignal system can never truly be outdated and should never be forgotten. I hope that this never happens. I want there to be a place for me to bring my kids to read books with them and share a special time with them - just as I see parents do with their children as I am working.

IN CONCLUSION, these tasks have been fun and, for the most part, worthwhile.
~Good times, good times.~

Week 9 -Thing 22

I think that this whole "downloadable books" thing goes right along with modernizing the library and its methods. Patrons can now just access audio books from their own computers. This seems really efficient! I can definitely see this working for students in school.

I used the Project Gutenberg site because I did not feel like making another account for these 23 Things. (lol). I find it very intriguing that so much is available online these days. Just a few years ago, I would have never imagined such accessability! This is really cool! The world is being brought together through the internet. Everyday practices are becoming much easier and more efficient as well.

Week 9 - Thing 21

I'm a fan of rss feeds! I had forgotten how cool they were until I went back into bloglines. I remember I really I enjoyed it when I was first introduced to it in the first couple week of this thing, but I hadn't really used it since. I think it is cool that I can have podcasts in my rss feeds. I mainly looked into music and sports though. It's really interesting stuff.

RSS Feeds and Podcasts definitely are ways to keep sharp on subjects that interest you!

Week 9 -Thing 20

THE STARTING LINE!!! must I say more?!?! April would agree with me when I say that I do not, but I shall. I LOVE THIS BAND!!! This is why I chose this video! It's their newest video. This song, Island, is off their new album, Direction, which came out on July 31! It is perhaps the best cd ever created!

So, I decided to bless you all with another fantastic video. I think that this music video is amazing!!!! This band called The Color Fred. The frontman is Fred Mascherino...the former guitarist and back up singer for Taking Back Sunday. This video is really good. It's really well thought out, put together...yea...it goood!

Week 8 - Thing 19

And the winner is......PANDORA! This site is fantastic! I've used it at home on my computer and I love it!!! I use it to listen to Franks Sinatra, and the similar artists and songs which pop-up on my playlist. I have heard some fantastic songs through Pandora! I do love it so! (If you could not already tell.)
So, in short, if you have not checked it out, check out Pandora!!!

Week 8 - Thing 18

So, I think that this whole document-creator-online thing is also really cool. I think that it is good to know about this site because this site will make emailing papers to teacher (now) and professors in college if I need to. I used Google Docs and found the interface to be very similar to Microsoft Word, so it was very easy for me to use. I actually quite enjoyed #18!

Week 7 - Thing 17

So, I am digging on this whole editing-site-by-yourself thing. I have always wanted to make my own website, and I have actually started a couple of them too. So, for me and my lack of time, this is great because I do not have to go through the whole process of creating my own website....I can just edit a pre-made page when I feel like it.
I did run into trouble, though, when I was trying to place my link onto the page. Luckily, Brian was sitting on the other side of the desk, so he was able to help me. Now, I understand it and I think it's pretty neat.

Week 7 - Thing 16

So, again, I have mixed feelings about "wikis". I do like that it open to everyone and I like that everyone can voice their opinions, edit at will, etc. The problem is, though (at least with informational site like Wikipedia), that if anyone can edit, then faulty information may be accepted as correct. I think that many libraries could use wikis to their advantage though. For example, I like how some of the examples had postings about community events or posting from different people discussing various books. So, in the end, wikis are neat and useful, but one must be careful while using them.

Week 6 - Thing 15

So, I read a few of those articles- which were quite long by the way!- and I had some mixed feelings. I think that it is very important to keep the library system up to date, current, and user friendly. This way more and more people will be able to get involved and our purpose as a library will be furthured. But, this is where my mixed feelings emerge. I don't think that the "old" system should ever be outdated or replaced. This reminds me of an episode of "The Office" when Ryan was taking Dunder-Mifllin to a new "technological" front with a website, and Michael was adamant that the old-fashioned personal touch was the only way to do business. So, again, I have mixed feelings about Library 2.0, but each definitely does have its benefits.

Week 6 - Thing 14

After exploring Technorati, I have simplified the site in my mind: it is a site where you can search for blogs that relate to any certain topic. After searching "Learning 2.0" and finding the information for which I was looking on page 2 or 3, I continued to search my school, Chopticon High School. The interesting thing is that a couple of the blogs that I found were actually relevant. One was actually from the myspace of a kid that I know, who graduated last year. This site is pretty interesting.

Week 6 - Thing 13

Wow...that tutorial was long! Well, I think that Del.icio.us is cool. I think that it is kind of similar to Google, Youtube, Ask, etc. It was still neat, though. I personally am not HUGE into blogging and tags and stuff, but this was still easy enough to understand and I think it could be very useful.

Week 5 - Thing 12

Well, I must admit, I had somewhat of a difficult time figuring out what Rollyo was all about. Once I figured out HOW to use it, I ran into another problem - What to make my Rollyo about. So, after thinking about things that I like, I decided that soccer would be the way to go. So, after making a decision, I went over to Google and I searched "soccer" and I added some of the sites that were listed. So, without further adu, here is my searchbox:

Week 5 - Thing 11

Hello again! I just created my profile at LibraryThing and I must say that it is pretty cool that there is a huge database made so that booklovers can network with one another. As far as my catalog goes, I really just searched for the books that I have listed under "My Favorite Books" in my Myspace profile and in my Facebook profile. So, here's a link:

Week 5 - Thing 10

Good morning, all! When I came across thing 10, which I heard was very fun by the way, I realized that one of the generators that was listed was the Yahoo Avatars generator. I was very excited to find this because I created a Yahoo Avatar about a year ago when they first came out on Yahoo. I then went back and took a look at my avatar. I discovered that even though I made it a while ago, it still looked similar to me and I only wanted to change the apparell and little props and stuff. But, nothing major really, because the avatar was still "spot-on."

Here it is:

Week 4 - Thing 9

I really enjoy the whole RSS feeds thing! When I was watching the tutorials online, I found that I was really interested in the idea. I think it is so cool that I can find out stuff, like current news, without searching around different sites on the internet for it. I also thought it was really cool that Bloglines had "popular suscriptions" listed. Under that list, I found all the news sites to which I was already planning to suscribe, as well as other interesting feeds such as GamePro, iTunes, etc. I really think that I am going to enjoy this!

Week 3 - Thing 7

hmm...what to write about....well, as far as "technology and me" go, not TOO much has happened to me this past week. One interesting thing is the my brother got an Ipod nano. He is the second of my siblings to have bought an Ipod. I am somewhat jealous. lol. It's cool tho. I really like his choice, though. He got a classy looking red Ipod with his name engraved on the back at the top. I think I will get an Ipod soon enough. As long as I have enough money. That's the only reason I haven't bought one yet.

Week 3 - Thing 6

http://www.flickrmap.com/

Well, as I was browing through different 3rd party Flickr sites, I came across Trippermap. This thing is SOO cool! It basically uses photos to tell about locations. For example, there is a little flag sticking out of Texas and when you drag your cursor over it, a little box appears and you see the title of the city and a picture from that location. I also read that making these little links is as easy as tagging the photo with the location name! I personally thought that this application is very neat!

Week 3 - Thing 5

So, I started checking out Flickr today. It's pretty cool. In the past, I've used Webshots and Kodak Gallery so I already understand the concept of Flickr.
I chose to make a post about this picture because it caught my eye. My initial thoughts were of Gladiator and how in the "heaven" scene, Russell Crowe walks through the field and the color, although brighter in the movie, is grayish....I dunno, it's what came to my mind....

Week 1 - Thing 2

For the next "thing," I watched a slideshow/podcast which discussed learning and how it is a lifelong process that is important to every person's well-being. The slideshow mentioned 7.5 habits that would help evolove my own learning process. The habit that I found to be the easiest for me was:
"Use technology to your advantage."
I have always been capable of learning how new technologies work and how to use them. This habit is already quite apparent in my learning process.
The habit that I found to be the most difficult was:
"View problems as challenges."
I tend to let myself get bogged down by problems which, in turn, causes me even more problems and more stress. This is a habit that I will have to work hard to impliment in my learning process.

Week 1 - Thing 1

For this first step, I read the blog and I found out how the program works and what I would be trying to accomplish through these 23 Things...
